IMM Resident and Fellowship Training

IMM is experienced in the development and supervision of medical residency and fellowship programs. We are proud of our role in contributing to the education and training of future physician generations. Our goal is to provide guidance and mentorship to our residents and fellows as they develop professional excellence, comprehensive knowledge, and a strong clinical skill set. These lasting relationships are an important aspect of career development within the programs we serve.

Residency Programs

IMM currently manages five emergency medicine residency programs, providing training for medical school graduates seeking careers in emergency medicine and teaching opportunities to those of our providers who enjoy mentoring young physicians. For residency-trained, board-certified physicians invested in the world of academic emergency medicine, core faculty positions and Residency Directorships are available. Fellowship Program

In addition to our residencies, IMM has established premier emergency medicine fellowship programs to train graduating residents, or mid-career physicians in Family Medicine or other specialities to become effective and competent emergency physicians. These one year programs are conducted at four primary sites in Alabama and one in Lousiana:

  • Alabaster, AL
  • Birmingham, AL
  • Cullman, AL
  • Decatur, AL
  • Monroe, LA

Fellows also complete supplemental rotations at other hospital emergency departments serviced by IMM. All didactic sessions and clincal shifts are led by a faculty comprised of excellent professional role models from our organization. Successful completion of our program allows immediate eligibility for the written and oral board examinations administered by the American Board of Physician Specialists.
